Toll changes on Southampton's Itchen Bridge come into force from today (10 February).

There's no longer an off-peak charge so you'll pay ÂŁ1 no matter the time of day.

It's 40p for those with a SmartCities card.

The city council says it's to cover maintenance costs and encourage people to consider alternative transport options.

In addition, the toll for heavy goods vehicles will increase from ÂŁ25 to ÂŁ40 per crossing at any time.

In a statement, Southampton City Council said: "The toll is intended to help manage the number of vehicles using the Itchen Bridge crossing and related routes in Woolston, Sholing and further afield, by prompting drivers to make a meaningful decision on whether to use the Itchen Bridge instead of other routes, or alternative modes of transport as well as fund the ongoing maintenance of the bridge."
