Some parts of the South could see as much as 20 millimetres of rain in the space of an hour today.

A yellow warning for heavy showers and thunderstorms has been issued until 10pm today (Tuesday 9th) for all of Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and West Sussex by the Met Office.

Forecasters are warning of disruption to driving as a result of spray, standing water and possible hail.

Delays to train services are also possible, while some flooding of homes and businesses may also take place.

A Met Office spokesperson said:

"Heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop through Tuesday, some becoming slow moving across more southern and eastern parts of England during the afternoon and evening.

"A few places could see 20 mm of rain within an hour and possibly 30-40 mm in 2-3 hours, along with lightning and hail."
