Three treated by paramedics following Southampton flat fire

Three people have been treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics following a fire which broke out in a flat in Southampton.

Crews were called to the building in Wood Close in Sholing at just before 7.30pm on Wednesday (January 1st).

The cause of the fire, which is believed to have started on the second floor of the building, is currently unknown.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service has said an investigation will be carried out into how the fire started.

A spokesperson for the service said:

"Equipped with breathing apparatus, crews entered the second-floor property, combating the blaze using an aerial platform and jets.

"Smoke was later cleared using high-powered ventilation fans.

"Three individuals were treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service.

"Crews from Hightown and St Mary’s stations returned to base after the stop message was issued at 10:20pm."
