Three gardens have been destroyed and damage has been caused to a house after a bonfire got out of control in the New Forrest.

More than 60 firefighters were needed to battle the blaze at Bransgore yesterday afternoon that spread to around five acres of fields, hedgerows, and four neighbouring properties.

The fire was reported at approximately 2:30 pm, generating around 20 emergency calls.

Crews from Hampshire and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services attended in Bockhampton, supported by specialist vehicles from Portchester, Eastleigh, Lyndhurst, and the Incident Command Unit from headquarters.

A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue said:

"Multiple hoses, jets, and compressed foam systems were used to bring the fire under control. The fire is now fully extinguished, and crews will return this morning to carry out further community safety activities.

"The hot weather made conditions extremely challenging, and firefighters worked tirelessly to contain and extinguish the blaze.

"We would like to thank the local community for their patience, support, and cooperation throughout the incident."
