As thousands of students prepare to receive their A Level results this morning, Southampton Solent University is offering their advice.

Clearing lines are open and offering any unfilled places at universities across the country.

Southampton Solent University told us their advice for those who didn't receive what they expected.

Geeta Uppal, Senior Access and Outreach Officer at Southampton Solent University, said: "It's really important not to stress out because what's not in your control now, you won't be able to change.

"But what you can do, is once you've got your results, you can say okay, this is what I got, what's my next step?

"We can really support you with that at Southampton Solent.

"If you didn't quite match your expectations you had for your results, don't panic.

"Thousands of students go through Clearing each year, so it's not a new process.

"You're obviously doing it for the first time, but it's not something that's not been done before, and universities are geared up for it.

"Also, always keep an open mind, popular degrees can fill up fast, so if that's your course, get on the phone as soon as you can.

"But don't panic, in terms of keeping an open mind, if you don't get the course you wanted, there might be a similar course that you can be offered."

People who can access Clearing are those who:

  • Are applying to university after 30th June
  • Didn't receive any offers or any offers they wanted to accept
  • Didn't meet the conditions of the offers
  • Declined firm place using the 'decline my place' button in your application

Clearing is open from 5th July to 20th October 2025.

Students are asked to "be prepared" when calling a Clearing line, and to have all qualifications and a personal statement ready.

Ms Uppal added students should ask questions to operators about courses and universities and take their time in deciding on a course that's right for them.

Clearing days are also available for students in order for students to visit the university grounds and meet lecturers.
