Five teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, after a 16-year-old boy was assaulted in Portsmouth City Centre.

He was found injured on Commercial Road at around 5.24pm yesterday (Saturday 25th January), but police believe the incident took place a short time earlier on Arundel Street.

The teenager is in hospital in a serious but stable condition, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary added.

Officers said on Sunday morning: "We have now arrested two 17-year-old boys, a 16-year-old boy, and an 18-year-old man, all from Portsmouth, and a 17-year-old boy from Gosport on suspicion of attempted murder. All five remain in police custody as our enquiries continue.

"The victim remains in hospital in a stable condition. His injuries are not thought to be life changing or life threatening at the current time.

"We are still appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage."
