Police investigating a string of deliberate fires at a derelict hotel on the Isle of Wight have arrested a second man on suspicion of arson.

Crews were called to two blazes at the Ocean Hotel on the Esplanade in Sandown on August 5th and 8th.

A third fire at the building, on August 21st, is not being treated as suspicious.

A 20-year-old man from the town is being questioned and remained in custody as of Tuesday afternoon (September 3rd).

An 18-year-old man previously arrested by police remains on conditional bail until November 18th.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police spokesperson said:

"Our investigation into these arson incidents continues, and the South Wight Neighbourhoods Policing Team are following up every line of enquiry.

"Police also continue to patrol the area, and are working with local partners to resolve issues regarding the site, its security and the associated anti-social behaviour and criminality."

Officers have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to trace in connection with the incidents.
