Residents 'fume' over proposed housing estate near Wimborne
A renewed bid to build up to 55 homes on Green Belt land in Colehill has sparked fresh objections
There’s been a SECOND attempt to build 55 homes between Colehill and Wimborne despite dozens of residents being against the idea.
Last year, plans to build on the 13.6-acre site off Birchdale Road were refused as it would destroy vital green space and habitats.
Dorset Council said housing on the green belt site, used for grazing, would be “inappropriate” due to the surrounding sites of Special Scientific Interest, including heathland.
The previous application also failed to address biodiversity mitigation, how it would deal with any archaeological project and the development’s impact on listed building in the area.
Meanwhile, several residents raised concerns around infrastructure and increased congestion.
A council meeting heard that there is potential for at least another 50 cars having to drive through the existing housing estate, where there has been accidents in the past.
One resident said: “Wimborne has had 5 major developments built in the last 5 years without any improvement in infrastructure or GP facilities.”
He continued to claim that the site would cut off an important “wildlife corridor” noting that deer regularly use the field, as do badgers and foxes.
