Fire breaks out on 18th floor of Redbridge Towers in Southampton
Residents were evacuated safely after guidance from the service
A fire broke out in a communal area on the 18th floor of Redbridge Towers in Southampton yesterday (Saturday, 22 March), prompting a major emergency response.
Emergency services received multiple calls at around 10:20pm reporting the incident, with ten fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, and incident command vehicles were deployed to the scene shortly after.
Residents in five nearby flats contacted the fire service control room and were given fire safety guidance until they could be safely evacuated. The entire 18th floor was evacuated, and all residents were accounted for.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using three jets," a fire service spokesperson said. "Once the fire was out, crews worked to ventilate the affected areas."
A joint investigation by police and fire services will now be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
