Teenager Andre Garcia celebrated his first professional goal as Reading upset Championship Portsmouth 2-1 in the Carabao Cup.

Exciting full-back Garcia, 17, was on hand to tap in after Ben Killip had made a sensational double save to thwart Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan in the 34th minute.

Ehibhatiomhan kept his cool four minutes later to bully his way past Hayden Matthews and slot beyond Killip, with Tayo Singerr getting a late consolation in the 93rd minute.

Before the Royals, showing nine changes from their last league game, had taken control of the game with their quick-fire academy product double, Pompey should have led through their own triple chance.

Terry Devlin's cross from the right was headed against his own goalkeeper by Finley Burns, before Mark Kosznovszky and Thomas Waddingham had shots turned off the line.

Reading had lost both their opening League One fixtures 2-0 this season and sit at the foot of the table, but also could have netted when Kamari Doyle curled a free-kick onto the roof of the net.

Daniel Kyerewaa should have added a late third for Reading, but his low shot met an on-rushing Killip when clean through.

It did not stop them from progressing despite youngster Singerr diverting in Adrian Segecic's cross in injury time.
