Four people from Southampton arrested on suspicion of murder

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Portswood late on Wednesday night.

Officers were called to Belmont Road shortly before 11.30pm on 3rd December, following reports of an altercation involving two men who were reportedly assaulted by another man.

When police arrived, they found the man suspected of being the offender had suffered a serious chest injury.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity has yet to be confirmed.

Arrests made

As part of their enquiries, police have arrested four people on suspicion of murder.

A 22-year-old man, 26-year-old man, 51-year-old man, and 52-year-old woman, all from Southampton, are currently being held in custody.

Teams remain on Belmont Road today where additional patrols are taking place alongside further investigations.

Police statement

Detective Chief Inspector Rebekah Bartholomew, leading the investigation, said:

"I understand this news and the road closures we have in place will be concerning for local residents, and I want to thank you all for your understanding and patience while we carry out our enquiries.

"We are in the early stages of our investigation, and my team are working hard to piece together the exact circumstances and understand the moments that led up to the call to us.

"At this time, I believe this to be an isolated incident, but if you do have any concerns then please do not hesitate to speak with officers who will be in and around Belmont Road throughout the coming days."

Appeal for information

Anyone with information, CCTV footage, or video footage from Belmont Road between 11pm and 11.30pm on Wednesday 5 December is urged to contact the police.
