A Portsmouth vet's urging us to be aware of our pets' safety this Christmas period, saying she sees a spike in the number of pets needing emergency treatment over the festive period.
Dr Mollie Bailey-Sale, an Emergency Veterinary Surgeon, says on average, one in five pets need treatment.
She's telling us her advice for leftovers and decorations that you might have around the house.
She said: "Christmas is one of our busiest times and the things we see most commonly are things like toxins.
"So pets eating things they shouldn't like chocolate or raisins.
"If you're engaging in mistletoe, sugar free gum is also quite toxic.
"Pets love to eat Christmas decorations, too, and sometimes can get electric shock injuries from eating the lights.
"Prevention is better than cure, so make sure you keep everything out of reach.
"Things like mince pies and chocolate.
"If anything does happen, call us straight away because the sooner we get it sorted, the better."
