Police make arrest after man in his 80's assaulted in Newport
The victim was left briefly left unconscious
A man has been arrested after a man in his 80's was seriously assaulted on the Isle of Wight.
The arrest follows a report of a serious assault on a man on Cross Street, Newport at around midday on Friday (4 April).
The victim – a man in his 80s – suffered injuries to the face, elbow and hand and was briefly left unconscious as a result of the incident.
A police spokesperson said:
"As part of our ongoing investigation, we would like to still hear from anyone who witnessed anything of the incident, or anyone who was in the area of Cross Lane, School Lane and Staplers Road around the time of the assault."
The arrested man remains in police custody.
