A 44-year-old man in hospital is in a serious, but stable condition
Hampshire Police are appealing for witnesses after an assault in Sandown on the Isle of Wight that has left a 44-year-old man in hospital in a serious, but stable condition.
Officers say at some point between 1:50pm and 2pm on Sunday 24 August the man was assaulted and reportedly punched to the ground.
Officers on patrol located the man on the High Street at the junction with Albert Road. He was taken to hospital, where he remains, to be treated for injuries to his head.
A 41-year-old man from Sandown was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and has been released on conditional bail until 24 November pending further enquiries.
Investigating officer, DC Clare Maycock said:
“This assault has led to the victim being seriously injured and he remains in hospital. Officers have carried out enquiries in the area, but we still need your help to progress our investigation.
"Anyone with video doorbell or dashcam footage from the area at the time who hasn’t already spoken to us should contact us as soon as possible. Your video may show the victim or the person that assaulted him in the area, even if it didn’t capture the incident itself.
"We’re also keen to speak to any other witnesses in the area who haven’t already come forward”.
