Person dies on railway tracks in Winchester
Services face major disruption following this morning's incident (Wednesday 12th)
A person has died on railway lines at Winchester train station this morning (Wednesday 12th).
British Transport Police (BTP) and paramedics were called to a casualty on the tracks at around 8.48am.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Their death is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Winchester railway station at 8.48am today (12 March) to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner."
The issue has led to disruption to services between Eastleigh and Basingstoke, with large queues being reported for replacement buses.
A spokesperson for South Western Railway said:
"Due to the level of disruption being experienced as a result of this incident, customers are authorised to book their own taxis between Eastleigh and Basingstoke."
The issues are expected to continue until around 3pm.
