NHS strike action in Dorset is off
It follows outsourcing u-turn say union
Hundreds of NHS employees in Dorset have called off plans for a potential strike - over their jobs being outsourced.
Three trust - Dorset HealthCare University, Dorset County Hospital and University Hospitals Dorset - had proposed moving support workers to a subsidiary company.
NHS England has, however, banned the practice for the time being and said any future moves would require union backing.
Union UNISON says it's been told that means the transfer in Dorset will now not go ahead.
94% of members had backed industrial action.
Workers include porters, catering and cleaning staff.
UNISON South West regional secretary Kerry Baigent said: “This is an important victory for staff at these trusts.
“The huge support for strike action showed just how strongly health workers feel about any erosion of their pay and conditions.
“The NHS depends on support staff to keep hospitals clean, safe and running efficiently. Many are already low-paid and farming them off to subsidiary companies would’ve left them with an even worse deal.”
