New Forest woman calls for Gaza humanitarian aid corridor after being detained
Evie Snedker was detained by Israeli forces near Gaza and has now returned to UK soil
A New Forest woman is calling for a humanitarian aid corridor to help get aid to Gaza following her detainment by Israeli forces.
Evie Snedker, 26, was travelling on a flotilla of 50 boats to bring food and aid to Gaza when she and others on board were detained by Israeli forces.
The group were intercepted by Israeli forces 69 miles out of Gaza.
Ms Snedker said: "It was very surreal because we knew at that point we were going to get intercepted, so there was obviously the huge disappointment that we didn't think we were going to make it to Gaza.
"You know, all the aid we were carrying wasn't going to make it to the people it was intended for.
"There was a real sadness about that.
"Then there was a little bit of apprehension.
"We weren't quite sure as they'd gone from saying we're going to bomb you, we're going to treat you as terrorists and you're going to be in prison for 10 years, to we want you out of the country in two days."
She says the Israeli forces boarded the boat just before 10pm at night.
Ms Snedker told us what she's calling for now.
She said: "If you can break the siege and get that humanitarian corridor started, then you can have far bigger ships coming in with far more aid that can make a significant and sustainable difference.
"It's all very well civilians doing this, but there's only so much we can take and there's limitations.
"It's to push governments and big agencies to do what they should have been doing this entire time, and find a viable way to get aid in there."
