A new same day emergency care centre is opening it's doors in Chichester today, in a bid to reduce hospital admissions.

The £4.5 million unit, which is ten times bigger than the temporary facility in place, is hoped to speed up access to treatment at St Richards Hospital.

It'll be able to provide rapid assessment for common issues which don't require immediate surgery, such as chest pains, kidney injuries, and abdominal pains.

It comes just days after a warning was issued on social media that A&E departments at the hospital are "very busy".

"Game changer" for care

A ribbon will be cut by a man who's life has been saved multiple times by staff at St Richards' - after being bitten by a rare beetle in Tokyo in 1999.

The University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust has described it as a "game changer", which is "redefining the experience of urgent care", after "major strategic investment in modernising our Urgent and Emergency Care facilities".
