A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of an 84-year-old woman in Ryde.
Police were called by paramedics to a home in Wood Street on Saturday lunchtime.
The death is being treated as unexplained.
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called just after 1.10pm on Saturday 15 June by colleagues at the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service to reports of an unexplained death at an address on Wood Street in Ryde.
"Officers have attended and an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the death of an 84 year-old woman.
"As part of our enquires, a 59 year-old man from Lake has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
"He has been released on police bail until 15 September."
