More than 8,200 appointments for coronavirus jabs were missed in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in the last week alone.

The real figure is likely to be far higher as this does not include missed appointment slots at GP practices, which record the data individually.

People are being urged to move or cancel their appointments with the national booking service.

Dr Matt Nisbet, clinical lead for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight vaccination programme, said: "We continue to work hard to scale up capacity.

"But particularly in the areas of greatest need, based on evidence, to help ensure our communities are protected against the virus.

"To ensure we can offer the vaccine to as many people as possible, it is really important that anyone with an appointment cancels or moves their slot if they no longer need it."

More than 3.6m jabs have been delivered across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight since the launch of the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history a year ago.
