Marwell Zoo animals enjoy South's first snow day of the winter

Creatures have been spotted frolicking in the wintry weather

Creatures at Marwell Zoo in Hampshire have been out enjoying the South's snowy conditions after the are experienced its first cold snap of the winter.

The wildlife park near Winchester was among areas to see spells of the white stuff on Thursday (November 21st) after temperatures plunged below freezing in many areas.

The snow leopard, Amur tiger and birds were seen exploring their frost-covered habitats, perfectly at home in the chilly conditions.

Meanwhile other animals enjoyed the winter weather including a siamang gibbon who scooped up and tasted the fluffy snowflakes, while a sitatunga climbed into its feeding bucket, filled with freshly fallen snow.

Tapirs were among the creatures to revel in the wintry conditions

The cold conditions are not expected to last for too much longer, with temperatures as high as 15C being forecast for tomorrow (Saturday 23rd).

It comes as a yellow weather warning has been issued for the South ahead of the arrival of Storm Bert, which is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The Met Office's alert is in effect from 6am until 11.45pm.
