Man charged with assaulting security guards at Hampshire hospital

One suffered a serious leg injury during the incident

A man is due to appear in court on Wednesday (October 16th) charged with assaulting security guards at a Hampshire hospital.

Officers were called to reports of an altercation at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Romsey Road in Winchester at 5.49am yesterday (Tuesday 15th).

Hampshire Police said one of the security guards sustained a serious leg injury during the incident and required hospital treatment.

Two others were assaulted but did not sustain serious injuries.

Officers arrested a man at the scene.

33-year-old Jamie-Lee Terry Clarke, of no fixed address, has been charged with wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, two counts of assault by beating, and two counts of racially or religiously aggravated common assault or beating.

He has also been charged with common assault of an emergency worker, which relates to a subsequent incident at the Northern Police Investigation Centre in Basingstoke.

Clarke is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.
