Man charged with serious assault in Gosport

A man has been charged in connection with a serious assault in Gosport.

Police were called to Gosport Precinct on Friday night.

A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

24-year-old Rhys Curtis, of no fixed address has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of a knife in a public place.

He's due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court today.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said:

"We are treating this as an isolated incident with no wider risk to the community, and following enquiries a man has now been charged.

"An 18-year-old man who was initially arrested as part of enquiries has since been released with no further action being taken against him."
