A man seen 'dragging and kicking' his dog in Bournemouth town centre has been banned from keeping dogs for seven years.

34 year old Arnoldas Kalkauskas from South Woodford in London admitted an animal welfare offence at Barkingside Magistrates Court, following an investigation by the RSPCA.

Alongside the disqualification from owning dogs, he must also carry out 120 hours unpaid work and pay a £150 fine.

The charity was told by eye-witnesses that Kalkauskas mistreated his Cockapoo named Pablo, in the Lansdowne Road area of Bournemouth, in September 2022.

He was tracked down to his home address by RSPCA inspectors.

A vet's reports said: “In my opinion, the act of dragging and kicking Pablo would have caused him to suffer; physiologically and psychologically. Kalkauskas failed to protect Pablo from pain and caused unnecessary suffering.”

RSPCA Inspector Miranda Albinson, who helped to investigate for the animal welfare charity, said: “We’re always grateful to members of the public who kindly speak up for animals and report anything they witness which causes them concern. Animals feel pain, fear and distress, just as we do, and deserve to always be safe from harm.”
