Updated plans to revamp a motorway junction at Winchester have been revealed after concerns about the impact on wildlife.

National Highways wants to build a new layout at junction nine of the M3 where it meets the A34 to reduce traffic queues.

The revised plans remove Winnall Moors Nature Reserve from the area that would have been affected.

The project will see the M3 widened around the junction to create four traffic lanes in each direction of the M3, as well as free flow connections with the A34.

Around 6,000 vehicles an hour go through junction nine during peak periods and traffic is particularly heavy between the M3 and the A34, with frequent queues.

National Highways said it was aiming to apply for planning consent later this year.

An information event will be held at Tesco Extra, Easton Lane, Winchester on Sunday 25 and Monday 26 September, 10am - 4pm.
