Jo Shiner has been reappointed as the Chief Constable of Sussex Police.

She's re-joined the force until August 2027 after being confirmed by the Sussex Police and Crime Panel.

Mrs Shiner was first appointed to the role in June 2020, before retiring on 31 August.

Her reappointment comes as part of the nationally recognised retire and re-join scheme, which allows officers of any rank to resign and take a month-long break, before re-entering the force at the same rank.

Speaking before the Panel on Friday, Mrs Shiner said priorities remained "protecting communities, catching criminals and delivering an outstanding service."

"We talk about data integrity and numbers, at the end of all this is a person, a vulnerable person who has called us a time of crisis that expects a good, proportionate and fair policing service, and that’s exactly what I have striven to deliver."

The Panel's Chair Mark Baynham said he was "delighted" to recommend Mrs Shiner's appointment as Chief Constable, adding she had done a "fantastic job."

Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne told the Panel that Mrs Shiner "is a proven leader with experience, integrity and professionalism, who is committed to delivering the highest possible policing services to our local communities and to keeping Sussex safe."
