Isle of Wight charity 'overwhelmed' by aid effort for Ukraine
Thousands of aid items will leave the Isle of Wight for Moldova tonight (Friday)
A truck full of clothing, food, toiletries and tents will take around four days to make the journey to the country which neighbours war-torn Ukraine.
East Cowes based charity MAD-Aid has been collecting items to help those in crisis.
Mad-Aid's Phoenix Centre in Riscani has also been transformed into a refugee centre.
Victoria Dunford, who runs MAD-Aid, told Wave 105 they've taken in mothers and children fleeing their homes.
She said, "I was in Moldova when the war started".
"We heard explosions. It's terrifying. There are a lot of tears".
"Our charity has been based on the Isle of Wight for ten years but what I've seen in the last few days is amazing. Everybody is helping and volunteering".
"We've turned our centre in Moldova into a refugee centre to help those in need".
Ferry firm Red Funnel has provided a free crossing for the lorry full of aid on Friday evening.
