A yellow weather warning's been issued for the South, ahead of an expected night of heavy rain tomorrow (Wednesday 4th September).

The Met Office says as much as 50 millimetres could fall in places.

The alert covers Dorset in the west, as well as Wiltshire, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Surrey, Sussex and Kent, as well as spreading further north.

The warning's in force from 9.00pm tomorrow night (Wednesday) until 9.00am on Thursday (5th September).

We're also told the showers could be thundery at times.

The Met Office say we can expect:

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life

Conditions aren't expect to get much better after the alert either, with forecasters predicting a wet weekend, with up to a month's worth of rainfall.
