Hampshire police car damaged as officers try to stop stolen quad bike

It's alleged the rider drove at an officer as he stepped out of his car, but he managed to get out of the way

A 22-year-old Southampton man has been charged with damaging a police car after a collision involving a quad bike in Totton.

The incident happened at around 11pm on Saturday, 27 February, after officers carried out a stop of the quad bike on the A326.

Whilst conducting the stop, the rider is alleged to have driven at the vehicle and a police officer as he stepped out of the car.

The officer got out of the way of the quad bike.

A second vehicle was also damaged in the incident, as was the quad bike, which is believed to have been stolen from an address on Peterscroft Avenue in Ashurst.

An axe was located in the front basket of the quad bike.

No one was injured in the incident.

Hampshire Police say Vijay Louis Bunth Sandhu, 22, of Radcliffe Road in Southampton, has been charged with the following offences:

• Attempted GBH

• Aggravated vehicle taking

• Failing to stop

• Criminal damage

• Resisting arrest

• Failing to provide a specimen of breath

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court today (March 1st 2021).
