Fordingbridge town centre getting CCTV for the first time
It's part of a trial by New Forest District Council
Fordingbridge has had a set of CCTV cameras installed for the town centre for the first time.
New Forest District Council's put it in, alongside the Town Council, to monitor Fordingbridge High Street for a four week trial.
The cameras are 4G, producing high-definition colour images, with infra-red to enhance night-time and low light pictures.
The trial is testing the functionality of the cameras and quality of the footage.
A public meeting's being held at Fordingbridge Town Hall on Thursday 22nd February at 6.00pm, for local residents and businesses to find out more and hear about the findings of the trial.
Cllr Dan Poole, Portfolio Holder for Community, Safety and Wellbeing, said:
“The trial of new CCTV camera technology in Fordingbridge marks a significant step forward in our efforts to continue maintaining a secure environment for our community, fostering a sense of confidence and wellbeing for all our residents.
I’m delighted with how the trial is going so far and urge residents of the area to attend the community event on 22 February to find out more. I would like to thank Fordingbridge Town Council for their support with this vital project.”
If the trial is successful, the council will look to expand the CCTV network across other areas of the district that do not currently have cameras, including Fawley, Brockenhurst and Bransgore.
The camera roll-out is expected to take 2 years, to help residents feel safe.
The ÂŁ300,000 investment includes additional funding from the Home Office Safer Streets Fund.
