Field of Remembrance opens at Carisbrooke Castle
The public are being invited to attend a service today (Thursday 9th November)
A Field of Remembrance will once again be opened to the public at Carisbrooke Castle this month to commemorate those in the uniformed services who lost their lives in service of their country.
The field was introduced in the Princess Beatrice Garden at Carisbrooke Castle in 2010, however it has now been moved to the Governess Lawn which is next to the Princess Beatrice Garden.
It was established by the then Isle of Wight Lord Lieutenant, Maj Gen Sir Martin White, as a place where residents can pay their respects around the time of Remembrance Sunday.
A Service of Remembrance, which members of the public are welcome to attend, will take place at the castle tomorrow (Thursday, November 9), at 10.45am. The Field of Remembrance Service is a non-uniform event.
Crosses can be obtained at the castle, with donations going to the Royal British Legion.
Refreshments will be provided by the Women’s Institute for a small donation
