The RSPCA have said they see a surge in pet abandonment across the South of England post the Easter period.

Small pets like Rabbits are being abandoned across the south following impulsive Easter buys.

We've been speaking with Dominika Jagoda, who is an expert on small animals and works with the RSPCA.

She has been telling us the reasons for the wide-spread pet abandonment following the Easter period.

"Unfortunately, impulse purchases of animals or even adoptions are not unheard of during the easter period. If people purchase animals without doing the proper research, they may not be prepared for the responsibility of pet ownership.

She went on to say how the issue of pet abandonment is unfortunately something that the RSPCA see both across the south coast- and the entire country as a whole

"It's a very common issue we see with rabbits especially, the easter bunny can lead to a surge of rabbits being bought as pets. Many of whom will end up dead to to a lack of appropriate care or knowledge.

"Despite Rabbits being seen as a very good starter pet, they actually have very complex needs, and are one of the most neglected pets in the UK"
