A dog has died in a fire involving a chip pan in a holiday park chalet in the New Forest.

The blaze broke out at Sandy Balls holiday village in Godshill near Fordingbridge shortly before 6.00pm on Wednesday.

One person was treated for the effects of breathing in smoke.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "One dog died following a chip pan blaze at a chalet on the Sandy Balls estate in Godshill.

"Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the property to remove the dog which had sadly died.

"One casualty was given immediate emergency care by firefighters and treated for smoke inhalation."
