A critical incident has been declared at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester after a car crashed into a power unit.

A hospital statement said: 'Yesterday (23/11), the Trust called a critical incident following a vehicle collision with a power unit in the car park at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.

' The power to some areas of the site continues to be affected. Our backup generators are running to keep these areas operating safely.

'We are asking people to attend the Emergency Department only if it is an emergency. People should continue to attend their appointments.

'You can help by supporting us to get your loved ones home as soon as the decision has been made that they are ready to be discharged.

'Our focus continues to be on managing the incident whilst continuing to provide care to our patients. Our priority remains keeping our patients, staff and visitors safe.'
