Rail passengers have faced disruption after a cracked rail was discovered in the New Forest forcing the closure of the line.

Network Rail said its engineers worked overnight to replace 19 metres of track at Brockenhurst level crossing.

The closure meant passengers were unable to travel between Bournemouth and Southampton Central on Tuesday morning.

The line reopened shortly before 8.00am, but commuters were warned of further disruption until 12.00pm.
