A cordon placed on Southsea seafront after a suspected unexploded bomb was found has now been lifted.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that it was called to Pier Road at 9:37am on Tuesday (December 3rd) following reports of a "suspected piece of unexploded ordnance".

Areas around Clarence Pier were sealed off with people told to avoid the area, whilst the Blue Reef Aquarium, D-Day Story museum and parts of Southsea Common were also temporarily closed.

Police confirmed that explosive ordnance experts had made the item safe as of 9.15pm on Tuesday.

Hovertravel, which suspended all services during the incident, has resumed crossings to and from the Isle of Wight this morning.
