Coastguard teams have rescued a person who fell from a footpath into mud in Chichester Harbour.

Crews from Selsey, Hayling Island and Portsmouth were called to the scene, to the east of Langstone Mill Pond, at 7.36pm on Sunday (March 28th).

They were joined by members of the ambulance service and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

Teams were able to stretcher the person, who had injured their ankle, to safety and into a waiting ambulance.

They were then taken to hospital.

Crews from Selsey and Hayling Island were among those called to the scene on Sunday

A spokesperson for Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team said:

“The coast and the sea can catch you out whether you’re local or not. Our message remains: call 999 Coastguard if you’re in trouble.

@Please help us and our families to stay safe. Be aware of the risks, and keep your distance.”

In an emergency out at sea, on the beach or along the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
