Body found in search for missing Bournemouth man

Police say the 79-year-old's family have been told

Police believe a body found in the River Stour in Dorset to be that of a missing man from Bournemouth.

Officers had been searching for 79-year-old Neil Hurren, who was reported missing having last been seen in the town at around 10.20am last Tuesday morning (August 31st).

The discovery was made in the river near to Longham at around 2.30pm on Monday (September 6th).

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, the body is believe to be Neil's and his family has been made aware.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and HM Coroner has been informed.

Chief Inspector Claire Phillips, of Dorset Police, said:

“Our thoughts remain with Neil’s family and friends at this very difficult time. They would now like time in private to deal with their loss.

“We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeals, as well as the partner agencies who assisted us with our searches.”
