No weapons have been found by police in Bournemouth who were called to reports of a firearm.

They attended St Swithun's Road just before midday yesterday (22 April) where two men were said to have been involved in an altercation with one of them armed.

Officers now think it was a replica or a BB gun - a cordon in the area was later lifted.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The police cordon has now been removed.

Officers say while no arrests have been made, they will continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident, including reviewing nearby CCTV footage to establish exactly what happened and who was involved.

Detective Superintendent Steve May, of Dorset Police, said: “We are aware of the public’s understandable concern around this incident and discussion of it online.

“We want to reassure our residents that we are confident no viable firearm was involved.

“Officers will continue to carry out high-visibility patrols of the area and can be approached with any questions or concerns.

“We would like to thank members of the public for their patience while our officers and staff worked at pace to establish if there was a wider risk to the public.”
