Armed police called following stabbing in Southampton

A man was rushed to hospital following a serious assault in a car park

Armed police and the air ambulance have been called out after a man was stabbed in a car park in Southampton on Saturday night (February 12th).

The site in Westridge Road in Portswood was cordoned off after officers were called out at 4.14pm.

Hampshire Constabulary said it is alleged that two men were involved in a physical altercation at the rear of the Scoops Gelato store on Portswood Road, with one suffering seriously injuries.

The 27-year-old was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.

A police spokesperson said:

"Armed response vehicle officers were first on-scene and conducted an area search in an attempt to locate the man allegedly responsible for the assault, but to no avail."

The incident is being treated as an isolated one, with no wider risk to the public.

Officers are continuing enquiries to find those responsible and have stepped up patrols in the area.

The cordon had been lifted as of Sunday morning.
