Passengers say they're fed up with a cross-Solent ferry company and are demanding compensation after all high-speed services have been suspended.

Red Funnel says the Red Jets - which run to and from Southampton and Cowes - were stopped yesterday (Saturday 16 March) because of 'an unexpected technical issue'.

The company's apologised and says it'll operate a replacement service tomorrow.

In a statement, Red Funnel said: "Our Red Jet service is currently suspended, after an unexpected technical issue was encountered with Red Jet 7’s propulsion system.

"We anticipate our service will now be suspended until Monday, when we will be operating a replacement service.

"Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused – as an alternative, please use our Vehicle Ferry service.

"As a result of technical issues with both Red Jet 6 & 7, our West Cowes <> Southampton route will be operated by an alternative service on Monday 18 March, with an extended crossing time of 50 minutes."

The timetable will run as follows:

  • Dept Southampton: 0700 / 0900 / 1100 / 1500 / 1700 / 1900
  • Dept West Cowes: 0600 / 0800 / 1000 / 1400 / 1600 / 1800
