Even without spectators, Yeovil Town’s one-nil win against Boreham Wood at Huish Park could rank up there with one of the most emotional victories in their 125-year history.

It was the first National League match since the passing of captain Lee Collins.

Manager Darren Sarll said Yeovil were taking a ‘brave step’ especially as many of them haven’t trained following the passing of Collins.

The visitors presented the stand in captain Carl Dickinson with a wreath before kick off, while Yeovil put in a battling display which their skipper would have thrived in

Tom Knowles first-half-strike was the difference between the two sides, which brought an outpouring of emotion as the players ran across to celebrate with him.

There were similar scenes following the full time whistle as some of the players, who were physically, emotionally and mentally drained, dropped to their knees.

They stayed on the pitch following the match to remember Collins which was a fitting tribute to the man they will always think of as ‘skipper’.
