Yeovil Town's match against Weymouth in the National League South has been abandoned after a 'medical emergency' in the stands.

Play at the Bob Lucas Stadium was stopped in the 77th minute after a fan in the Yeovil end was taken ill.

An air ambulance landed on the pitch to take the fan to hospital.

The game - which Weymouth were leading 1-0 - was abandoned due to the length of time for the suspension.

Weymouth FC and Yeovil Town are in discussions with the National League as to whether the game will be replayed, and when that would take place.

Club Statement:

"All at the Yeovil Town Football Club send their very best wishes to the fan who required medical attention during the fixture against Weymouth.

"It is moments such as this which place fixtures into perspective. We are extremely proud of the way in which the fans and staff conducted themselves in light of the emergency.

"We would also like to express our gratitude to the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance who reacted so promptly in order to ensure the proper medical treatment was delivered in a timely fashion.

"We are in correspondence with the National League and the FA regarding the outcome of the fixture which is currently unknown.

"We will provide an update on this as soon as we are able.

"Once again, the thoughts of the Club are with the supporter, their friends and family who we understand remains in intensive care and is receiving the best possible treatment."

Weymouth Chairman Paul Maitland said he expected that decision to come soon, and would update fans as soon as possible.

Speaking on a video posted on X, Mr Maitland said the club offered their "best wishes" to the fan who fell ill, and wished them a speedy recovery.

"I would apologise to those who've been affected by the events of today's game, it's one of those things that we've just had to deal with."

"I thank both sets of supporters for the way they handled themselves and accepting the situation is very unfortunate."

"Sometimes things happen that a bigger than a game of football."
