The co-owner of Yeovil Town has resigned with immediate effect.

Errol Pope claims the announcement is largely due to the impact of Coronavirus:

"As a consequence of the current global pandemic and its devastating impact, this decision has been taken with a heart laden with regret.

“I am saddened that these unprecedented circumstances of uncertainty and plight have prohibited my plans and contributions to the Club, in the way and of the magnitude, I had hoped".

The Glovers' Chairman Scott Priestnall is now its sole owner.

'A detailed and thorough debate'

The announcement comes hot on the heels of South Somerset District Council giving the green light to purchasing Yeovil Town's home stadium.

On December 3, the authority approved a deal to buy Huwish Park and its surrounding land.

Council Leader, Val Keitch said: "The decision to approve this proposal was made following a detailed and thorough debate which was quite right given its importance.

“We have agreed to make an investment that will not only benefit a football club which has such an important role to play in our community but one which will also benefit our residents".

The land will then be leased back to Yeovil Town - the club could also buy it back in the future.

'There is a great worry that Yeovil Town could disappear'

Brendon Owen, Membership Secretary of supporters' group The Glovers Trust said: "We know that the cash will probably run out at the beginning of the New Year.

"We're worried that we'll be relegated and we're worried that the club will be even more worthless than some people think it is at the present time.

"There is a great worry that Yeovil Town could disappear".

The Trust has the option to counter-bid the Council before January 7. It is currently exploring the possibility of partnering with a consortium.

However, Mr Priestnall could turn the fans down.

Mr Owen added: "We have had an indication from Scott that he wouldn't be that keen on that idea, because if he gets the deal done with the Council the value of the land will rise considerably".
