Yeovil College has been given just over two million pounds to transform its engineering facilities – making it one of only two colleges in the country to get funding of this scale.

The cash comes from the Office for Students, and will pay for cutting-edge technology and brand new teaching spaces.

The ground floor of the engineering building is set to become a hub for advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and defence engineering by September twenty twenty-six.

Yeovil College says the project will boost skills and jobs in areas like aerospace and defence, working closely with leading employers in the region.

'Transformational investment'

In a statement, Yeovil College said: "We’re proud to announce that Yeovil College has been awarded £2,075,800 in capital investment from the Office for Students (OfS) - making us one of only two colleges nationally to receive funding of this magnitude.

"This transformational investment will redefine engineering education in our region. By March 2026, the ground floor of our engineering building will become a state-of-the-art hub for advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and defence engineering – fully operational by September 2026.

"What’s coming?

  • Cutting-edge technology and reconfigured teaching spaces
  • Advanced equipment for additive manufacturing, digital supply chains & sustainable engineering
  • A curriculum aligned with employer needs and national strategies

"This project directly supports the UK’s defence and advanced manufacturing sectors, creating a pipeline of highly skilled professionals for aerospace, defence manufacturing, and secure supply chains.

"Through partnerships with leading employers like Leonardo Helicopters, Thales, TKMS Atlas, Numatic, and Honeywell, Yeovil College is already a key player in the defence-engineering ecosystem. This investment strengthens those ties and ensures our learners gain real-world expertise in technologies critical to the UK economy.

"This £2M funding forms part of our ambitious £60M+ Big Build programme, alongside the new Institute of Sport, Construction Innovation Centre, and advanced digital learning spaces – positioning Yeovil College as a leading centre for innovation, skills development, and industry collaboration."
