Check before you travel around Shepton Mallet tonight, as the highways team is closing part of the A37 for urgent repairs and patching work.

Somerset County Council’s Highways team will be doing the work on the A37 Fosse Road, near Shepton Mallet, a move the authority has called 'necessary' to make sure the road is safe and in good condition for motorists.

Work starts at 6:30 tonight

The full road closure will begin at 6.30pm on March 10.

The authority says the work is expected to be lifted by 7.30am the following morning - and in the meantime, the council are advising motorists to plans journeys in advance and allow extra time to travel.

The repairs and patching work will involve resurfacing sections of the road to repair potholes and other damage.

Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset County Council’s Lead Member for Transport and Digital, said: “We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient for motorists, but we want to assure everyone that this work is necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of A37 Fosse Road. We have carefully planned this work to minimise disruption with work taking place overnight.

“Please do check the details on the diversion and plan ahead if you use this route regularly.”

Details of approved roadworks can be found here.
