Police have confirmed the man who died after a crash earlier this week in Somerset was 69-year-old Barry Hammond from Nether Stowey.

He was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident between a car and lorry on the A39 between Fiddington and Cannington on Monday (August 7).

It happened at about 6.35am, with Hammond driving a Peugeot 107 at the time of the incident.

He received medical treatment but sadly was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His family have been told and are being supported by a specially-trained officer.

His daughter Kimberley said: “My dad was the most amazing and kindest man I have ever met.

“He was loved by all who knew him and we are all devastated by his passing.”

Julie, in tribute to her husband, said: “I’m going to miss you terribly; I have loved you ever since we were married and that will never change. I wish you were here with me to take away the pain.

“You are in heaven now, all my love and kisses. You will never be forgotten and will always be in my heart.”
