A giant 10-metre replica of the moon - which is based on imagery from Nasa - goes on show in Bridgwater from tonight.

It'll be lit up each night at the town's docks ahead of its regeneration.

West Country artist Luke Jerram is behind it - having also done replicas of the Earth and Mars - and says his latest offering called 'The Fallen Moon' is 350,000 times smaller than the real moon and features an internally lit surface where each centimetre represents 3.5km of the moon’s surface.

Jerram says it was created using NASA data and ‘The Fallen Moon aims to inspire and connect people by reflecting the cultural and scientific significance of the moon'.

The installation will be illuminated on the water each evening from 5:30pm to 8:30pm with a sound composition by BAFTA award-winning composer Dan Jones.

Luke Jerram's The Moon has already toured the South West

After a ticketed event at 1pm at Bridgwater Arts Centre, local band Tongues of Fire will provide live music at the town's docks from 6pm-7pm as the immersive artwork is revealed.

It will be on show from 530pm-830pm until Sunday November 3.

On Thursday 17th October, 5pm-9pm, there will be a 'Full Moon over the Fallen Moon’ event with a special night market at Bridgwater docks.
