Taunton Town FC have been relegated from the National League South after a 0-1 defeat against Weston-Super-Mare.

The Peacocks needed victory against their local rivals to avoid relegation but a goal from the Seagulls in the 83rd minute, sealed their fate.

In a post on X the Taunton Town said: "With the result tonight our relegation from the Vanarama South has been confirmed.

"Taunton Town suffer the first relegation in their history.

"Thank you all for your support this season, we'll be back stronger, together."

It follows a difficult season for the club, who suffered multiple home game cancellations due to bad weather and a water-logged pitch.

The backlog of games meant a tricky final few weeks for the players, who will have played 9 games in 23 days on Saturday.

Fans online have been wishing the team well, with one calling it "a chance to reset, stabilise, and bounce back on off and with the pitch."

They'll be leaving Wordsworth Drive tonight hoping for better fortune and a chance to bounce back next season.
