Somerset residents are being urged to think about shopping locally this Easter weekend, to help give businesses a boost.

The Somerset Chamber of Commerce says many businesses are feeling the crunch after the Chancellor's spring statement and the rise in employers national insurance.

David Crew is the Managing Director at the chamber, he said: "Overall, this is a challenging time for businesses.

"Some business leaders have been telling me this is the most challenging time they've faced since Covid.

"We're sure they will pull through and we've been seeing more and more people support local here in Somerset.

"We're lucky to have quite a thriving independent scene but there's no doubt businesses need the revenue and customers over bank holidays."
